England's coronavirus hotspots as Leeds infection jump sparks 'watchlist' fears

The top 10 areas in England with the highest coronavirus rates have been named with eight showing a spike in infections over a week.

Northern towns Pendle, Rossendale and Bolton remain as the areas with the three highest rates of infection, with the latter ordered earlier today to remain in lockdown just when it was about to be released.

But the number of infections in Leeds is also cause for concern, with 258 new cases putting it in the top top 20 worst infection rates in the country.

The West Yorkshire city has recorded and infection rate jump from 21.1 to 32.5 per 100,000 people, according to new figures covering the seven days to August 30.
