England have beaten India by 227 runs in the first Test in Chennai to go 1-0 up in the four-match series. A stunning spell from James Anderson early on the fifth day put the tourists in total control and strangled any hopes that India had of forcing an unlikely draw, with the spin of Jack Leach then coming to the fore.
India had resumed on 39/1 chasing a huge 420 to win, but veteran Anderson was in superb form at the beginning of the day as he produced a remarkable spell of bowling.
He ended with figures of 3-17 from his 11 overs, but it was the spin of Leach which really took hold on a turning pitch as he registered 4-76.
