The 25-year-old is a free agent after it was confirmed he will be leaving Championship side Swansea City this summer upon the expiration of his contract there.
John had a successful time out on loan at the University of Bolton Stadium, arriving at the club in the January transfer window.
He went on to play 21 times and score twice as he established himself as the club's first choice left-back in the second half of the campaign as Wanderers secured
