Employers are being urged to "to do the right thing and support parents" who cannot work due to school closures in London and large parts of England.
The TUC said firms should offer to furlough those who face last minute childcare emergencies as daily coronavirus cases continue to soar above the 50,000 mark.
It urged the government to introduce emergency laws and 10 day's paid parental leave to those unable to work amid a third potential lockdown.
