Declan Donnelly has laid his brother Dermott to rest after he passed away suddenly earlier this month. Dermott, who was a Catholic priest, died aged 55 on 8 July, after he was reported to have been taken to hospital after falling seriously ill following a collapse.
Dec, 46, was said to be by his older brother’s side in his final moments.The TV star was by his brother’s side again as he carried his coffin into the same church where he married his wife Ali Astall, putting him to rest with friends and family at the funeral on Thursday 28 July.
Declan, who recently announced the arrival of his second child with wife Ali, appeared deep in sad thought as he gathered outside St Michaels RC Church in his hometown of Newcastle with relatives for the memorial.The presenter was smartly dressed for the sombre occasion in a black blazer with matching tailored trousers.
Declan was then seen gravely making his way inside the church as he acted as pallbearer, carrying his brother Dermott’s coffin on his shoulders ahead of the funeral starting.
