Emotional Clive Myrie close to tears as he pays tribute to George Alagiah

BBC star Clive Myrie choked back tears as he announced the death of his colleague George Alagiah. Earlier today we reported the legendary newsreader has died at the age of 67 after a nine-year battle with bowel cancer.

His agent Mary Greenham confirmed to the PA news agency: “I am so terribly sorry to inform you that George Alagiah died peacefully today, surrounded by his family and loved ones.“George fought until the bitter end but sadly that battle ended earlier today.“George was deeply loved by everybody who knew him, whether it was a friend, a colleague or a member of the public.

He simply was a wonderful human being.“My thoughts are with Fran, the boys and his wider family.”Clive was struggling to contain his emotion as he was tasked with telling BBC viewers the sad news.

The pair had worked together for years, as reports the Mirror.As his voice was breaking, Clive said: "On a personal note, George touched all our lives with kindness and generosity.
