Emma Faulds ’ killer is a “selfish, arrogant monster” who subjected his so-called friend to the worst ever betrayal, said a top detective who led the enquiry into her murder.

Detective Inspector Peter Crombie said Ross Willox’s attempt to hide the popular youth worker’s body in hundreds of miles of forest in a bid to conceal his vile crime was an “unforgivable” insult to her family.

He revealed how the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end after one of the most challenging searches in the history of Police Scotland ’s Major Investigation Teams (MIT) finally brought Emma home to her loved ones but spoke of his regret that her family may never know the truth about her murder.
