The UAE will launch a rocket to Mars next week, as part of its Emirates Mars Mission (EMM). The launch on July 14 at 21:51 BST will see a Mars Hope probe launched on board a 53-metre Mitsubishi rocket from the Tanegashima Space Centre in Japan.
It will then embark on a 307-million-mile journey to Mars, landing in February 2021. Omran Sharaf, EMM Mission Lead, said: “The launch of Mars Hope comes at the end of a six-year journey of development by the team at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, an accelerated time frame by interplanetary mission standards. “The team has overcome remarkable challenges, not least those presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, but we’re all good to go now.” After the launch, the rocket will reach staggering speeds
