Elvis has officially claimed the number one spot at the box office. According to a report from IndieWire published Monday (June 27), the Baz Luhrmann directed biopic grossed $31.1 million in its first three days, $600,000 higher than its initial estimate. Despite coming in second, the film’s performance still marks one of the best fifth weekends ever. Top Gun: Maverick also scored the second-best Memorial Day opening of all time and was a record breaking film for Tom Cruise by being the first time he’s had a movie open to $100 million or more.
