Elon Musk has stated that partner Grimes "mostly came up with the name" of their baby boy. The 48-year-old Tesla CEO has explained that the unusual name only had limited input from himself but there are worries that X Æ A-12 will not be accepted as valid name, when the couple try and register the child.
David Glass, a family law attorney, has told People that while the moniker is legal, there is a good chance that it will not be accepted as a valid name.
He said: "In California, you can only use the '26 characters' of the English language in your baby name. "Thus, you can't have numbers, Roman numerals, accents, umlauts or other symbols or emojis.
