The 63-year-old TV star opened Tuesday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show with a pre-recorded monologue, in which she spoke about Portia's hospitalisation and emergency surgery over the weekend.
The comedian also tried to make light of the situation as joked about Portia, 48, wanting to "go to bed" early, when she was doubled up in pain.
Ellen said that Portia told her around 7.30pm: "I'm not feeling well. I want to go to bed." The talk show host joked: "And it was like eight o'clock and that's early.
