A Scots athlete has helped raise £88,000 for vulnerable children at an event in Glasgow.Eilish McColgan spoke with 400 eager Glasgow sports fans in a flying one-day visit to Scotland for Action for Children’s 20th annual charity sports dinner on Friday.
The highly decorated long-distance runner is set to represent Team GB for the fourth time at the Paris Olympics in only seven weeks time.She was joined by her trail-blazing mum, Liz McColgan MBE, who was voted Britain’s Sports Personality of the year in 1991.
The mother-daughter duo each have inspirational careers, including Liz’s Gold medal win for 10,000m at the World Cross-Country Championship 30 years ago in Tokyo, which she won just months after giving birth to her daughter Eilish.
The event raised a total of £88,000, including auctioning a host of luxury sports experiences donated by supporters such as a virtual coaching session with Eilish McColgan herself.
