Earlier this year, Ed Sheeran won his copyright battle in UK court over his 2017 hit “Shape of You.” A judge ruled that Ed did not copy songwriters Sami Chokri and Ross O’Donoghue‘s 2015 track “On Why.” Now, the monetary prize that Ed has been awarded has been revealed. Click inside to read more… Ed has been awarded £900,000 in legal costs, which amounts to $1.1 million in US dollars, Billboard reports. Ed has not made any sort of statement regarding this case since he won. Ed has been sued for copyright infringement twice before.
He was sued over his song “Photograph,” which settled out of court, and was hit with a $100 million lawsuit for “Thinking Out Loud” in 2018.
