Ed Sheeran is building a burial chamber on the grounds of his sprawling £3.7 million Suffolk estate. The plan was given the go-ahead back in 2019, but the British hitmaker has now submitted amended plans to the local council that detail his desire to build the crypt within a church that he is building at the bottom of his garden.

Drawings submitted to the East Suffolk District Council in February show that the chamber will be 2.7m long by 1.8m wide and will only be accessible via a stone slab and underneath the church. The church is also set to feature a tower, eight pews, an altar, an upstairs gallery, stain-glassed windows, and a stair turret with access to the tower.

The plans sent to East Suffolk District Council reads: "Burial zone beneath (penetration through slab). In previously submitted documents, the agents of the project, Donald Insall Associates, wrote of the church: "It would address an important need for a private place of retreat for contemplation and prayer, for celebration of key life and family milestones. "The proposed building would be a space truly ancillary to the main house, but apart from it in order to provide calm and separation." The new burial and church is a scaled-down version of the wedding chapel he had planned to build in 2018.

It was rejected by planners following complaints from village residents. Suffolk Coastal District Council said the design would "be in conflict with the prevailing landscape character, creating the impression of a second village church".
