EastEnders' Rita Simmons gushes over daughter as she lands starring TV role

EastEnders actress Rita Simons has been offering her support to her daughter as she appears in her first major TV project. Rita, 45, is best known for playing the role of Roxy Mitchell in the BBC soap and it turns out acting talent runs in the family as her 16 year old daughter Maiya Silveston has followed in her footsteps.

Maiya plays Kaz in Silverpoint, a 13-part drama about four kids who went missing in the woods in 1997. Her character runs away from the base in the middle of the night so the others go after her, only to find something strange in the forest.

Mum Rita shared the trailer to the series to Instagram earlier this month, saying she was a “PROUD MAMA ALL THE WAY!” Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter The star added: “She’s the one with the pink hair btw!”.The soap star spoke about her daughter's new role on Lorraine last year but explained she couldn't give any details.

She said: "Maiya is currently away. I can’t say where and I can’t say what she’s doing. "But it’s gonna be in March it’s coming out and she’s doing a lead role in a drama, in a sci-fi." The actress added: "I’m very proud of her. "She’s been gone since the beginning of May and she’s not back until the end of September.
