EastEnders' Jamie Borthwick teases 'dark storyline' for Jay and Walford misery

After losing his on-screen wife just four months ago, EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick is diving head-first into another hard-hitting storyline.

Lola’s death sparked a lot of hurt around Albert Square but none could compare to the pain that Jay Brown felt after losing his new wife.

In recent scenes, Jay has turned to Lola’s lookalike, Nadine (Jazzy Phoenix), for comfort. But their bond has taken an unexpected turn as Nadine’s offer of drugs proves too tempting for Jay. “Jay does go to one or two dark places,” teases Jamie at the Inside Soap Awards after scooping the prize for Best Actor.

Jamie’s thrilled to be able to play out Jay’s grief on screen – especially as fans have been waiting to see how being a widower will affect him. “After Lola’s death, it got a bit quiet for me in particular, we weren’t seeing how things were evolving,” he adds.
