EastEnders' Jamie Borthwick reveals Nadine actress worried over 'stepping on Lola's toes'
ok.co.ukEastEnders star Jamie Borthwick has revealed that co-star Jazzy Phoenix had some apprehensions about starring on the show, amid worries that she’d “step on” Danielle Harold’s toes.
Jamie, 29, who plays Jay Brown on the BBC One soap, has had a busy time on Albert Square this year after his character’s wife Lola Pearce, played by Danielle, tragically died following a brain tumour diagnosis.
Following the death of Lola, viewers have seen Jay turn to sex worker Nadine Keller, played by Jazzy, for company, causing the actress to express her worries about getting in Danielle’s “space”. “Jazzy who's come in and played Nadine – do you know what the best thing about that is she was so aware of Danielle's space,” he told the Mirror while at the Pride of Britain Awards on Sunday 8 October. “She was like, 'Oh I really don't want to be treading on anyone's toes here and I'm really aware that you've worked together for so long and you've got your little routine I really don't want to get in her space'.
I just thought that was great from her and she was fantastic, she was blinding.” Jamie’s revelation comes after he revealed that fans of EastEnders can expect to see his character go to “dark places” in coming months as he attempts to navigate his grief and life after Lola’s death. “Jay does go to one or two dark places,” he told OK!
