EastEnders aired one of its biggest plot twists in years last night (Wednesday) as Cindy Beale was revealed to be alive and well - and masquerading as the missing Rose Knight.

Cindy (Michelle Collins) was last heard of in the BBC soap 25 years ago in 1998, when husband Ian (Adam Woodyatt) was told she had died during childbirth in prison.

Over the years, rumours have swirled that Cindy could one day make a return to Albert Square and in Wednesday's episode, fans' hopes were realised as she was shown to be still alive.

Although viewers only got a brief glimpse of Cindy in the final scene before the episode's end, they are already exchanging theories on why she would come back to Walford - and they think they've cracked it.
