EastEnders fans are sharing their thoughts on Cindy Beale's reported return to the BBC soap after rumours of Michelle Collins reuniting with her on-screen husband Adam Woodyatt came to light last week.

While Michelle's iconic character was killed off 25 years ago, the 60-year-old is reportedly reprising the role in an explosive new storyline, which sees Cindy and her ex-husband Ian — who left EastEnders in 2021 — selling sandwiches in the South of France, according to The Sun.

Speaking to the publication, a source said that "it's not entirely clear how or when they got back together", however Cindy and Ian (played by Adam Woodyatt) "seem to be a couple again". "It’s a clever and funny twist to have them continuing their catering work and working on stalls, just like they did on Albert Square," they added, with The Sun reporting that the couple will arrive in a Citreon van packed with sandwiches while Ian uses a translation app on his phone to speak French in scenes airing this summer.

OK! contacted a representative at EastEnders for comment, however the soap declined to comment. After news of the rumoured storyline broke at the weekend, fans took to Twitter to give their verdict — and not everyone was behind the big comeback. "Please tell me Cindy Beale isn't returning to BBC Eastenders.," one viewer wrote. "No offence to Michelle Collins, but Cindy being alive and not being around when her daughter Lucy was killed is just a travesty," referring to the character's murder in 2014.
