Angus Wilkinson became the youngest-ever winner of the East Kilbride Sports Personality of the Year prize and set his sights on more records this year. The 15-year-old, from Lindsayfield, took the prize following a stellar season in which he claimed the world record for running one mile at his age group at the Monument Mile in Stirling. And the Duncanrig Secondary School pupil has also gained attention in the last 12 months by running faster than Olympic legend Sir Mo Farah managed at the same age. This all led to Angus being crowned the town’s overall amateur sports person of the year, having also shared the under-18 award with cyclist Finn Johnstone.
And as he continues to set new records, Angus is determined to add more to his collection. He said: “It feels pretty good. I didn’t expect to win the main award.
Breaking the mile record for my age was the biggest race of my life so far. Until the winter there, it was a really good year for me and hopefully I can have one of a similar status this year.“It is kind of what I’m known by now.
Every time there’s a conversation around the club it’s like: ‘Oh you’ve got a world record.’“I will be doing the same race in Stirling again this year and hopefully I can go fast there again.
