East Kilbride Pirates get into shape for season ahead as club legend takes reins
dailyrecord.co.ukIt was all hands on deck at East Kilbride Pirates last week as new head coach Matthew Davies came on board to take his first session and start getting the players in ship-shape for next season.The club legend, who has been an offensive lineman/coach for the Pirates and coach of the U19s team previously, welcomed returning players, new experienced players and more than a few familiar faces to their indoor training session at Hamilton Palace Sports Grounds.Michael brings a wealth of experience to the table, having been Offensive Coordinator with Edinburgh Napier University and as a GA with the GB Lions Men’s team.And he will now focus on getting the team ready for their first game of the 2024 Premier North season on April 14.A fixture schedule is yet to be set, but Pirates will be competing against reigning national champions Manchester Titans, Tamworth Phoenix, Edinburgh Wolves, Merseyside Nighthawks and Northumberland Vikings next term.Players were put through their paces in the initial welcome session, but the build-up heats up in January when the club host their rookie session on Sunday, January 14 before returning to regular practice on January 21.The club will host the open try-outs between 11am-3pm at Hamilton Palace on January 14 for anyone interested in getting involved in American football.
