Early removal of contraflow at Luncarty will be a relief for Perthshire motorists

The A9 contraflow between Inveralmond Roundabout and Luncarty is due to complete on August 3 - three weeks ahead of the original schedule.Tying in the existing road with the new realigned A9, the contraflow has formed an “essential” part of the works for the new flyover between Inveralmond Roundabout and Luncarty, which will link to the new bridge over the River Tay.To facilitate the contraflow removal from the A9 northbound carriageways, there will be a series of traffic management changes on the A9 from August 1 to 3.On the evening of August 1, the southbound traffic will be moved to lane one of the new southbound carriageway.From the morning of August 2, there will be a southbound contraflow implemented on the new A9 road alignment.

All slip roads at Luncarty will be opened.And from the evening of August 2, at approximately 10pm, the northbound slip roads at Luncarty will be closed until 6am on August 3.This will allow the “remaining traffic management” to be removed and the new road to be opened with two lanes in either direction in the morning under a 40mph speed limit.William Diver, BAM Nuttall project director, explained: “We appreciate the contraflow has caused an inconvenience to motorists over the 17 weeks contraflow duration and I am pleased to be announcing an earlier than anticipated completion.“As an integral part of the Cross Tay Link Road project (CTLR), the newly-aligned A9 will allow for a more efficient infrastructure in the long term.
