An energy firm has had two windfarms approved by the Scottish Government in the space of three days. Energiekontor went to Holyrood for a decision on plans to develop sites at Manquhill and Divot Hill after the council failed to make a decision within the required timeframe.
And both schemes in the Glenkens have now been given the thumbs up by Scottish Ministers. First to win approval was Manquhill, which lies 8km east of Carsphairn.
Energiekontor can now go ahead and build eight turbines with a maximum height of 200m. Reporter Alison Kirkwood acknowledges it would bring adverse landscape and visual impacts but these would be “limited”.
Objectors had provided more than 50 potential social and economic problems the scheme could create, but Ms Kirkwood said these were not material planning considerations.
