Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, has broken her silence after an 81 year old great-grandmother died after being hit by a police motorbike in a royal escort for the Duchess.
Helen Holland passed away after "suffering multiple broken bones and massive internal injuries" during the collision, which occurred at the junction of Cromwell Road and Warwick Road in Earl's Court, in west London, on May 10.
Following the news, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said today: "The Duchess of Edinburgh is deeply saddened to hear that Helen Holland has passed away. "Her Royal Highness's deepest condolences and sympathies go to all of Ms Holland's family." It is understood Sophie will be in touch privately with Ms Holland’s family.
Confirming her death, Helen's heartbroken family told the BBC that Helen fought "for her life for nearly two weeks... but irreversible damage to her brain finally ended the battle today".
