Drivers are set to face a huge 46-mile diversion in order to bypass a 700-metre road closure in Somerset next month. The stretch of road on the A372 at Aller, near Langport, will be closed between the junction at Church Path and The Seed Factory while Somerset County Council carries out resurfacing work.

The road is scheduled to be shut between Tuesday, August 25 and Wednesday, September 2 and the closure will be in place for 24 hours a day, according to Travel Somerset's roadworks website.

As a result of the work, a 46.2-mile official diversion route will take drivers an estimated one hour and eight minutes to complete - as opposed to the 50 seconds it would normally take to travel the road at the 30mph speed limit.
