When you're driving around, it's fairly common to see plenty of cars with stickers on them - often displaying messages such as Baby On Board or Black Box Fitted, or even a favourite football team or holiday destination.

But whilst it's a popular choice to attach a sticker to your vehicle, drivers have been warned that doing this could mean you're slapped with a hefty fine - and are even at risk of having your insurance policy invalidated.

That's according to Auto Express and the British Insurance Brokers Association, who say that the rules surrounding car modification are very strict, and must be adhered to correctly. “While some additions to your car are obvious candidates for telling your insurer about, many motorists will be surprised by the strict definition of modification, and how even a sticker in the back window could void your policy,” said Auto Express consumer editor Hugo Griffiths.

Although it's not strictly illegal to have a sticker on your car windscreen, the Road Traffic Act states that your view of the road must remain unobstructed.
