There are calls for a crackdown on reckless drivers after it emerged someone with 68 points on their licence has not been banned.

A freedom of information request by the Lib Dems has revealed that, in total, 1,278 people with at least 12 points can still get behind the wheel.

The party is now urging the Conservatives to take action to keep roads safer. Lib Dem Transport Spokesperson Sarah Olney said: “The Government should examine whether the right systems are in place to put the brakes on problem drivers. "With fewer drivers on the road than ever before, now is the time to consider what can be done.” The figures also reveal that over a million Brits have at least one point on their licence.
