Enhanced criminal background checks for drivers every six months are also included in a range of tougher new licensing rules set to be brought in by Bury Council.

Call handlers and other non-driving staff at taxi firms also face regular Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks for the first time under new ‘common minimum licensing standards’ set to be adopted by the council this week.
