Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens gives closure on why he left the show

Downton Abbey fans were hit hard when Matthew Crawley died in that car accident a few short hours after the birth of his son, having survived a world war and the Spanish flu.

Almost a decade later and fans are still reeling from the Christmas special but at least we now have closure. Dan Stevens who played the role of Lady Mary’s love interest has finally revealed why he walked away from the show.

It transpires that Dan had become concerned about being typecast as a period drama romantic lead and wanted to broaden his horizons he told The Australian this week but admitted that he was open to playing another lead.
