Helen Behan was a breath of fresh air when she appeared on The Tommy Tiernan Show on Saturday night. The nurse turned actress made her name in Taken Down, This Is England ’88/’90 and The Virtues, a performance that saw her earn a BAFTA nomination.
The 40-year-old worked as a nurse for 20 years before bumping into director Shane Meadows on a night out. She managed to work up the courage to talk to him and expressed an interest in acting.
This is when she moved from the world of nursing into the world of acting as she appeared in three episodes of This Is England ’88. ‘I’ve had people look at me and they don’t know if they know me out of the surgery or off the telly,’ Helen joked.
