Doubts raised after UK Government claims to have hit 100,000 coronavirus test per day target

Doubts have been cast over how coronavirus tests are counted after the UK Government said it hit its target of 100,000 per day.

Speaking at the daily Downing Street press briefing, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that 122,347 tests were carried out in the 24 hours up to 9am on Friday.He went on to describe the figure as an “incredible achievement” and added that it could help “unlock” the lockdown.

However, doubts have been raised over the counting of the number of tests for Covid-19 in the days leading to the UK Government's deadline on its 100,000 target.
