Don’t Worry Darling topped the US box office over the weekend earning $19.2 million in its first big screen outing. The thriller, about a utopian 1950s desert community, directed by Olivia Wilde, overcame bad reviews and rumors about behind-the-scenes troubles to come out on top, according to Box Office Mojo.
The debut is disappointing considering the film, starring Wilde, Harry Styles, Florence Pugh and Chris Pine, cost $35 million to make.The Woman King, starring Viola Davis, easily captured second place.
The historical epic, based on real events, in which the Oscar winner takes the lead, finished with a strong $11.1 million in ticket sales.
