A dog had to undergo emergency life-saving surgery after he swallowed 3ft of Christmas tinsel. The ten-year-old Great Dane's owner Paul Nokes, 56, said his teenage son Mitch spotted tinsel that had been wrapped around ornaments on the mantelpiece was missing.
After a thorough search turned up nothing, all eyes turned to Dexter. Paul, from Margate, Kent, said: "When he was younger, he used to eat sofas and carpets.
And two years ago at Christmas he ate tinsel, although we didn't know straight away - he wasn't ill at all, and the first we knew was when it started coming out in pieces at both ends." But last Monday when he tried it again, he was sick, so Paul rushed him to vets at the town's PDSA clinic.
