The parents of a teenager who died of a rare illness after thinking she just had tonsillitis just months before her 18th birthday, were told not to google the disease before her death.

Leah Rogers fell ill shortly after returning to the UK from a holiday with friends in Spain with tonsillitis-like symptoms. The 17-year-old, who planned to train as an intensive care nurse, regularly came down with the throat infection but she and her family had no idea that this time she only had days left to live.

Her family were warned not to Google her condition after she was diagnosed. She was taken to hospital twice in the following week as her symptoms got worse.

Her mum Kath, 57, explained: "It got to the point where she took an accidental overdose of paracetamol because she took too many painkillers."After not seeing any improvement over the next few days, she was prescribed different antibiotics and her mum realised she did not have enough tablets to last for 10 days as prescribed.WalesOnline reports that her mum returned to the hospital to be told Leah had to be with her her in order to be given any more medication.
