Hero veteran Simon Flores lost his leg while serving in country in Iraq 13 years ago. The brave dad was on his second tour of the war-stricken country in 2006 when the patrol vehicle he was travelling in was hit by an IED and his foot was blown off.

Simon explained: "The blast welded the doors shut so we couldn’t get out, and my driver was losing consciousness. I was trying to keep him awake and I couldn’t see what his injuries were. “I didn’t want him losing consciousness.

I was trying to stop my own bleeding but I couldn’t get the tourniquet on because of the bits of flesh that were hanging out.” It took a rescue team 30 minutes to reach Simon and his driver, who had to prise the door open and get them to a field hospital.
