Dismay as RAH A&E waiting times collapse following brief recovery last week

Waiting times in the accident and emergencies department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital have soared to one of the worst totals ever recorded.After record-length waits at the Paisley hospital just four weeks ago - when barely more than half of people were being seen in four hours - the situation did seem to be improving, with 62.1 per cent of patients being seen within the Scottish Government’s target time.However, that progress appears to have stalled, with just 52.9 per cent of patients being seen within that time frame in the week up to August 7.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.It led West Scotland MSP Neil Bibby to bemoan an “utterly hopeless” Scottish Government for the worsening situation.He said: “I warned last week of the insufficient response from the health board and Scottish Government to staffing issues at the RAH. "Now, after just one week of seeing improvement, the number of people being seen within four hours has collapsed yet again to one of the worst on record.“Staff and patients continue to be failed by an utterly hopeless government.“At some point, Humza Yousaf and the Scottish Government have got to realise that doing nothing won’t make this summer crisis go away.
