Vandals who daubed anti-monarchy graffiti on a Manchester playing fields wall have been slammed. Two messages appeared on the wall on Hough End Fields in Withington this morning (Saturday) as Charles was officially declared King.

One, painted in larger black letters, read: "Make Elizabeth the last!" A second message, beside it, added: "No tears for Lizzy, end the Monarchy now".

Residents and walkers expressed their disgust following the Queen's death on Thursday. "I couldn’t believe how insensitive it was." Another neighbour initially thought the graffiti was linked to the controversial development to extend the leisure centre at the site.
