A mum has claimed that she was told she was not allowed to take a dip in a leisure centre pool simply because she had a stoma bag.

49 year-old Ruth Hussey has said that swimming is her only source of exercise due to her nerve damage from the waist down. She has claimed that when her daughter phoned up the leisure centre to enquire about a membership she was told that her mum would not be welcome.

Ruth has said: "I love swimming – it’s the only exercise I can do because of nerve damage from the waist down – and to be told no has really knocked my confidence. “All I wanted to do was have a little swim with my children and be a mum.

It broke me. It might sound silly to other people but when you used to be free spirited and now you’re disabled it’s hard." Wales Online report.
