Devastated couple told both daughters have brain disorder but only one can have treatment

A devastated couple have been told that both of their daughters have a life-limiting brain disorder, but only one of them can receive treatment.

Ally Wallace, 32, and her partner Jake Shaw, 29, discovered that their children Nala, two, and Teddi, 11 months, both suffer from a genetic disease which affects the 'white matter' of the brain and causes the loss of their physical and mental skills.

Agonisingly, Nala is unable to receive treatment for the condition, known as Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD), as her brain has deteriorated too far already, Chronicle Live reports.Sadly, she will continue to lose all of her functions and is not expected to live beyond childhood.Teddi was tested for MLD after Nala was found to have the disease earlier this month.As Teddi's condition is not at an advanced stage, she is able to undergo life-saving gene therapy treatment in Manchester next month.

Ally and Jake, who live in Shilbottle, Northumberland, have been told that they are both carriers of the same faulty genes and there was a one in four chance of them passing it on to their children.
