Derek Chauvin, 45, is facing 40 years in prison for the death of George Floyd, the Minneapolis man whom he pinned to the ground by the neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds, until he suffocated.
The death of Floyd, an unarmed Black man, sparked outcry and demonstrations in all 50 states. Chauvin’s has been charged with second-degree and third-degree murder, as well as second-degree manslaughter.
