Denise van Outen's grovelling apology to Queen after she stole ashtray from Palace

Denise van Outen was very, very excited when she was invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace for young Brits. She was 23 at the time and working as a presenter on The Big Breakfast, so couldn't wait to rub shoulders with the royals.

But while she was there she decided to take a few items as mementos from the day - and it ended up getting her in a spot of trouble.

During her visit she pocketed an ashtray and a tissue box holder - which she had to send back when they found out. She posted them back to the Palace with a note reading: I am really sorry, it was just a bit of fun".

But worried that her message wouldn't be enough, she also sent the Queen a rather unusual gift. She reportedly sent the monarch a stuffed toy camel she bought in
