Primal Scream singer Denise Johnson has died at the age of 53. The sad news was confirmed by her friend on Twitter. Her cause of death has not been confirmed, but a statement from her family said that she had "died suddenly" after an illness.
Denise was best known for her performance on the band's 1991 album Screamadelica. The singer was part of the band from 1990 to 1995 and featured on two of their biggest hits, Higher Than The Sun and Don't Fight It, Feel It.
Denise also loaned her vocals to tracks with a string of other artists, including The Pet Shop Boys and Bernard Sumner. Denise was planning to release her solo album later this year.
