Demi Lovato says she turned to drugs as a "destructive coping mechanism" that gave her something else to put her focus on. The 28-year-old singer suffered a near-fatal drug overdose in 2018 as doctors battled tooth and nail to save her.
The former Disney star - who has a new documentary about her past struggles - is candidly opening up about the most horrific time in her life when she cheated death.
Appearing on an upcoming episode of Diane Guerrero 's podcast, Yeah No, I'm Not OK, Demi set the record straight about some of the misconceptions mental health and drug use often carry. "In the same way [drug use] almost killed me, it saved my life at times, because there were times that I dealt with suicidal ideations," she explained.
