Debris found in Titanic submersible search as major operation continues to recover tourists

The US Coast Guard has said a "debris field" has been found within the search area for the missing Titan submersible.A remotely-operated vehicle discovered the debris near the wreckage of the Titanic.The latest development comes after the oxygen supplies onboard were estimated to have ran out around 12pm UK time, the Mirror reports.A major search operation was launched for the sub when it failed to check in around an an hour and 45 minutes into a trip to visit the Titanic wreck.It was estimated the Titan submersible would have about a four-day supply of oxygen when it disappeared on Sunday morning in the North Atlantic but experts repeatedly emphasised it was an estimate.A spokesperson for the USCG wrote: "A debris field was discovered within the search area by an ROV near the Titanic.

Experts within the unified command are evaluating the information."A conference will take place at 3pm EST (8pm UK time) to "discuss the findings".

Rear Admiral John Mauger, First Coast Guard District commander, and Captain Jamie Frederick, First Coast Guard District response coordinator, will lead the press conference.A 19-year-old Scottish university student is among the five people trapped inside the sub.
