Death of Castle Douglas HGV driver to be subject of fatal accident inquiry

A fatal accident inquiry is to be held into the death of a young HGV driver from Castle Douglas.Jordan Little was working for Hodge Specialist Transport Ltd at a farm near Abington in South Lanarkshire when he suffered fatal injuries following a workshop incident involving a lorry in April 2022.A preliminary hearing into the death of the 25-year-old will take place at Lanark Sheriff Court.The purpose of an FAI includes “determining the cause of death; the circumstances in which the deaths occurred, and to establish what, if any, reasonable precautions could have been taken, and could be implemented in the future, to minimise the risk of future deaths in similar circumstances”.Procurator Fiscal Andy Shanks, who leads on death investigations for Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), said: “The death of Jordan Little occurred while in the course of his employment and as such a fatal accident inquiry is mandatory. “The lodging of the first notice enables FAI proceedings to commence under the direction of the Sheriff.“Mr Little’s family will continue to be kept informed of significant developments as court proceedings progress.”Jordan grew up in Dalbeattie before he and his family moved to Castle Douglas when he was 10.He qualified for his class two HGV licence aged 18 and quickly achieved his class one.
