As the queue to see the Queen lying in state reaches an 12-hour wait, David Beckham has been spotted waiting in line. The football legend, 47, has caused a stir among the crowds who have been patiently waiting their turn to walk by the late monarch's coffin in Westminster Hall. The star joined the queue with other mourners at 2am this morning (Friday) to pay his respects to the sovereign. He managed to keep a low profile for a few hours but pictures of the former England captain started circulating on social media just after lunchtime as the people waiting realised who their famous neighbour in the queue was.Speaking to ITV News this afternoon, Beckham explained he'd assumed the queue, now thought to be around five-miles long, would have been a bit quieter. He said: "I thought by coming at 2am it was going to be a little quieter but I was wrong."The people here are all ages, everybody wants to be here to be part of this experience to celebrate what Her Majesty has done for us."Beckham also recalled his trip to Buckingham Palace with his grandparents and wife Victoria when he was presented with his OBE from the Queen and said he felt it "important" he pay his respects on behalf of his family. He said: "We can all see with the love that's been showing how special she was.

It's a sad day but it's important we remember the incredible legacy she has left."I was brought up in a household and grandparents would have wanted to be here, I'm here on their behalf and behalf of my family."I think it will take a long time to understand that because Her Majesty meant so much in so many ways.

I was lucky enough to meet her and was lucky enough to represent my country, singing God Save Our Queen, that meant so much, it was so special."David
