There weren’t many pundits predicting that David Beckham’s Inter Miami would be headed for the MLS Cup Playoffs come the end of this season.
But that’s exactly what the side coached by Phil Neville have managed to do after a topsy-turvy campaign that ended up with the Herons ultimately finishing in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Beckham-owned franchise head into Monday’s playoff first round against New York City FC - operated by the City Football Group - optimistic that their season can be prolonged by reaching the Conference Semifinals. Before the new season kicked off back in February - with a drab 0-0 draw in Fort Lauderdale against Chicago Fire in which 11 players made their club debuts - Miami were predicted to finish no better than midtable.
