Dave Grohl reveals an Irish trip inspired him to form the Foo Fighters

Dave Grohl has revealed how his band, Foo Fighters, may never have happened if he didn’t have a chance encounter with an Irish hitchhiker.

The rocker travelled to Kerry after Nirvana bandmate, Kurt Cobain, killed himself in April 1994. Dave revealed that after his friend’s passing he found it too painful to play music, and after putting his instruments away, decided to take a trip somewhere remote to get away from it all.

While driving around the south trying to avoid the media circus surrounding Kurt’s death, Dave came across a young hitchhiker.

Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on RTÉ Radio 1, Dave said: ‘It was after Nirvana ended, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going to do.
