Queen Margrethe of Denmark has been forced to apologise to her family after she made the “difficult” decision to strip them of their royal titles.

Royal households in Denmark are said to be embroiled in arguments and rows after their Queen announced the move on Wednesday and insisted it was the right choice. The 82 year old Monarch will be removing princely titles from Prince Nikolai, 23, Prince Felix, 20, Prince Henrik, 13, and Princess Athena, 10.They will, of course, still be considered Royals and won’t be living wholly normal lives.

From January 1 2023, they will instead be referred to as Counts and Countesses and will be called Their Excellencies rather than His or Her Royal Highness.

In an additional statement released on Monday, the Monarch admitted that she had “underestimated” the impact of her decision.
