Prince Nikolai of Denmark has released a furious statement after his grandmother, Queen Margrethe, stripped him and his three siblings of their official royal titles.
Queen Margrethe, 82, removed the prince and princess titles from Nikolai, 23, Felix, 20, Henrik, 13, and Athena, ten, leaving them "sad" and "in shock".
A statement from the Danish Royal Family stated that the reasoning behind the decision was that Queen Margrethe wanted to allow the children of her youngest son Prince Joachim "to be able to shape their own lives", without being "limited" by a formal affiliation with the royal household.
Nikolai and his siblings will no longer be able to use their royal highness titles from the New Year and will instead be known as Counts and Countess of Monzepat.
